ETIQUETTE

Clothing: Temples will not admit anyone in shorts. Touring the Grand  Palace requires closed-toe shoes (no sandals) and no shorts, for both sexes.

Wai: To wai or not to wai. That is the question that often confuses well-meaning Farangs. The Thai seem to use the wai as a greeting similar to a Western handshake. It is more than a casual greeting. It is a sign of respect from a subordinate to a superior, from a younger person to an older person.
