On 7 March, E.S. Hamilton VFW Post 9876, Pattaya, Thailand, celebrated its 25th Anniversary. In conjunction with the Post’s 25th Anniversary, a wreath was laid at the grave of Past District V (Thailand) Commander and Post Charter member Jack DeMello, SMSGT, USAF (Ret). Comrade DeMello was the District V Commander who instituted the Post on 7 March 1981. Attendance at the wreath laying included, Post Commander Ratcliffe; Senior Vice Commander Bell; Chaplain Bob Horn; Senior Vice Commander and Mrs. Burt Nestle, Post 9951, Bangkok; Department of Pacific Areas Senior Vice Commander Ken Schaefer, Post 2485, Angeles City, RP; Col Allen Swanda, USA, Army Attache, representing the U.S. Embassy, and other government agencies and military commands.
 
The Post Anniversary Ceremony and Party was held at the Hog’s Breath Saloon, the Post Home. Approximately 60 Post Members, families and guests were present, including Department Senior Vice Commander Ken Schaefer, Post 2485; Col Allen Swanda, USA, Army Attache, Senior Vice Commander Burt Nestle, Post 9951. An anniversary cake, decorated with a VFW Cross of Malta, was cut by Comrade Frank Mack (the oldest member present) and Comrade Ron West (the youngest member present). A variation of the Fleet Reserve Association (FRA) Two Bell Ceremony was conducted in memory of departed Post members. Comrade Schaefer presented the Post with a banner entitled “Best wishes to VFW Post 9876 on the occasion of your 25th Anniversary – Department of Pacific Areas.” A buffet luncheon was provided.
 

 

Wreath laying included, Post Commander Ratcliffe (L), Col Allen Swanda, USA, Army Attache, representing the U.S. Embassy (C) & Department of Pacific Areas Senior Vice Commander Ken Schaefer, Post 2485, Angeles City, RP (R).
 
Senior   Vice   Commander   Ken   Schaefer reviewed     &     commended     the     Post
on the accomplishments and achievements over the 25 hear history.
 

         
The   oldest   Post   member   cuts   the  cake   with the Post Commander and Youngest Post member present.

Senior Vice Commander Ken Schaefer presented Commander Ratcliffe with a commemoration banner.
